Pencak Silat is a family of Indonesian martial arts, consisting of hundreds of styles.

The Open Circle Academy primarily teaches a style called Gerakan Suci. Developed in the late 1990’s by Guru Rennie Saunders, Gerakan Suci is a descendant of the Suwanda family art of Pencak Silat Mande Muda, from West Java.

While we teach discipline and respect for each other and our teachers, we also embrace a spirit of play and community.

We train in martial arts for the obvious reason of learning self-defense and improving our physical fitness, but we also train as a means of personal growth and self-discovery. Therefore what begins with physical health expands to include emotional stability, mental clarity, and spiritual growth.
